Allan Brothers Launches New Heritage Casement Window

We’re proud to launch our new Heritage Casement Window, which we have specially developed to complement listed properties and homes in Conservation Areas and areas of natural beauty

We have drawn on our 200-year history and expertise in timber craftsmanship to recreate the historic detailing of casements found on Georgian or Victorian buildings, as well as on old rural cottages and farmhouses.

As planning guidance can vary for different properties and conservation areas, we offer our flush casement in standard and premium specifications, which can be customised to suit your home’s age and style.

Traditional period features for conservation areas

For flexibility of use, our Heritage Casements are available in Side Hung, Top Hung and Fixed Sash configurations. They combine modern functionality and performance with traditional timber joinery details and vintage-style ironmongery, making them a sympathetic choice for houses located in conservation areas:

  • Deep 92 mm softwood frames provide a heavy ‘recessed look’ characteristic of historic windows, whilst delivering the structural strength and rigidity to support modern glazed units.
  • Ovolo mouldings are a subtle detail widely used in 18th and 19th -century buildings, gently softening the frame’s appearance and blending with this classic architectural style.
  • 24mm solid timber through bars, which support separate, individually glazed panes, are an essential feature of period windows that help preserve their historic proportions.
  • 9mm external beading, hand-applied to replicate the traditional putty lines used by craftsmen to secure the glazing, creates an angled shadow line around the panes while ensuring their airtightness.
  • 14mm heritage double glazing fits easily within traditional timber frames without the bulky appearance of standard double glazing, while delivering superior performance to single glazing.
  • Monkey-tail or teardrop handles have a charming antique appearance that enhances the heritage style while providing modern levels of security and convenience.
  • Espagnolette three-point locking is an important security feature that locks the window at three different points along the frame, ensuring security whilst having a traditional appeal.
  • Friction stay hinges sit flush with the frame, hiding the sliding tracks and giving the casement a neat, clean appearance, popular on many traditional properties.
  • Heritage colours include all standard and RAL colours, as well as dual colours designed to complement your property.

Trickle vents, which blend discreetly with the building’s exterior, can also be added where modern performance standards require.

Premium options for listed buildings

As we recognise that replacing windows on listed properties often requires a higher level of authentic detail to achieve a genuinely like-for-like appearance, we offer premium heritage features:

  • Butt/knuckle hinges, in black, gold or stainless-steel finishes, which are clearly visible externally when the window is closed
  • Matching Opera and Regent handles with a high-quality feel and a classic elegance resembling those used during the Georgian, Edwardian, and Victorian eras
  • Peg and stay hardware, which was one of the most popular and practical historic methods for opening and securing windows
  • Hardwood frames, which are often preferred for prestigious heritage properties or where durability is paramount

A sympathetic Heritage solution

At Allan Brothers, we appreciate the challenges of restoring older buildings and meeting local planning requirements in conservation areas.

That is why we have invested significant research into developing an authentic Heritage Casement Window that beautifully complements our existing Heritage Sash Window.

Managing Director Morten Bach Valsted said: “With our Heritage window range, we believe we can offer a practical, high-performance and genuinely sympathetic solution that helps homeowners, builders, and conservation officers preserve the character of historic buildings as well as adding value to new builds.”
