Allan Brothers Ltd to re-open timber door and window manufacturing, 11th May 2020 with skeleton crews
At Allan Brothers we closed our manufacturing and distribution operations on the 27th March 2020 in the wake of the Corona Virus Crisis, in the best interests of our employee’s, the national effort and our customers.
More than 4 weeks has passed since the current social distancing measures were introduced and we have been in correspondence with both our supply chain and our valued customer partners. We have also been watching and reading all information possible from not only our Government and Public Health England, but also industry bodies such as the GGF, Rospa and the BWF.
At Allan Brothers we are in receipt of a letter dated 8th April 2020, from the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, The Rt Hon Alok Sharma MP, who states;
‘…our country needs your support to keep supply chains moving, as well as to protect the economy as much as possible. Every business has a role to play in helping the country defeat coronavirus.
Manufacturing is a critical part of our economy and I would like to be clear that there is no restriction on manufacturing continuing under the current rules. Guidelines from Public Health England provide best practice advice on how this can be done safely.
Those who cannot work from home and have to travel to work can continue to do so, consistent with the Chief Medical Officer’s advice. I would remind both you and your employers that good practice on hand-washing and social distancing where possible remains an important part of efforts to keep COVID-19 from spreading, as explained in the latest guidance on operating safely in the workplace. Further Government guidance is available on GOV.UK.’
We have considered all the guidance carefully as well as the livelihoods of many of our customers. We have completed a return to work Risk Assessment in accordance with the guidance from Public Health England and identified all measures possible to protect our employees, including maintaining a minimum social distancing space of 2 metres for all employees. A copy of the full document can be found here.
On balance, we have decided to begin manufacturing Timber Window and Door products, and distributing them, with a skeleton crew from Monday 11th May 2020.
We will do this to support our customers and the UK economy as a whole, but also we will do so safely, we will start with a skeleton crew to ensure we can control the measures we have in place to prevent the introduction/spread of the virus in the workplace.
Allan Brothers will look to steadily increase our staffing levels to meet demand in manufacturing operations as soon as we are comfortable with our working practices and we have the need from our customers to do so. We will communicate further with these dates for as we proceed through these steps.
Throughout, Allan Brothers have continued to process orders and enquiries safely from a home working environment to support our valuable customers. All orders have been processed with an expected date which will be confirmed. This has been important within our downward supply chain not only for all our customers but in particular our customers who support critical services such as NHS and care facility operations.
Thank you, to all our customers and partners for their support in what are very difficult times for us all. We continue to be by your side throughout this crisis.
On behalf of Allan Brothers
