WHERE IT ALL STARTED
James and Thomas Allan began their apprenticeship in wood craftsmanship, under the watchful eye of their father William over 200 years ago, in the year Britain’s mad King George III stepped down from the throne and only four years before Wellington finally defeated Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo. The two brothers took over the company on the death of their father in 1843.
Together they embarked on a programme of steady expansion and gradually acquired more land until their Berwick factory covered an impressive eight acres. Right from the very beginning James and Thomas shared a passion and determination to create the very best in timber windows. This clarity of vision is the bed-rock on which today’s Allan Brothers has based its commitment to unsurpassed quality.
