Overview

Under the BRE’s Ecohomes 2005 Guidance, credits are available for the use of certified sustainable timber. Two categories of application exist – the Basic Building Elements and Finishing Elements. Windows and doors are classed as Finishing Elements.

Maximum credits are achieved if 75% of the cubic volume of timber used is from a certified sustainable source and the origin of the remaining timber is temperate. Eco home credits can only be awarded where evidence is provided from the suppliers demonstrating the presence of a complete and auditable third party, independent chain of custody (Source BRE Ltd 2004).

From April 2006 new rules apply and Ecohomes is being replaced with the Code for Sustainable Homes. For details on the scoring system under the 2006 rule contact us on
