After oceans, forests are the planet's most important carbon sinks, helping to remove harmful Carbon Dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere and replacing it with the oxygen needed to support life.

Deforestation & carbon emmissions

planet of trees

Deforestation now accounts for around 15% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions - almost the same as all of the world's planes, cars and trains put together*.

Thankfully, due to strict legislation Europe's forests are growing at a rate of over 660,000 hectares each year - or three football pitches every hour, which is why we only use timber from FSC-certified forests in Sweden.

Our timber supplier owns some of the largest tree nurseries in the world, producing an average of 1.8 million new saplings every day. This year they will produce more than 1 billion tree seedlings, which will be used to replenish sustainable forests throughout Sweden, soaking up billions of tonnes of CO2 as they grow.

Because we manufacture our window frames from this sustainable source, they are classified as 'carbon neutral', which means they absorb more carbon than they produce during their service life. In fact, our window frames can save as much as three-quarters of a tonne of CO2e per average house, which is the equivalent of driving 6,500 kms in a small family car**.

Unlike plastic man-made alternatives timber is also completely bio-degradable. And, once a timber window has reached the end of its long service life - up to 60 years at least - the energy stored in the wood can be recovered through recycling or use as a biomass fuel.
